Exposed

Recently a video of a couple at a Coldplay concert in Boston USA made big headlines.

At a point in the show, the cameras turn on the audience, zooming in on the fans allowing Chris Martin, the lead singer, to interact with them.

On this occasion, the camera focused on the couple embracing as they watched the show. As soon as they saw themselves on the giant screen they tried to hide.

Martin, slightly taken back, said that they were either shy or might have been having an affair. Unfortunately, it later came out, that they were having an affair.

This was captured by another fan in the crowd who posted it online and the whole thing went viral in days.

The fallout has been huge. It has ruined the man’s family and the couple, caught on camera, who worked at the same company, have both resigned.

In just a brief moment, things changed dramatically with severe consequences.

It reminded me of the story about King David in the Bible, who saw another man’s wife , called Bathsheba, and took her for himself, and had the husband killed!

God sent a prophet called Nathan to expose what David had done. David sort God’s forgiveness, as recorded in Psalm 51…

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
— Psalm 51:1-2 The NIV Bible

When David was confronted he admitted he had done wrong and immediately sort to get right with God.

Fortunately, God in His grace and mercy, forgave David. This is good news for us, as it means that when we acknowledge and confess our wrongdoings, God will forgive us.

However there were consequences from David’s actions. The son born to Bathsheba died. This must have been so painful.

I think that this Biblical story and the couple at the Coldplay concert are both a reminder and a warning:

Do what is right and things will be OK. Do the wrong thing, God will forgive, if there is true confession, but there may well be consequences.

God bless you :)
