Unnoticed

There is one thing you can rely on, the Grammys will always have stand out moments! This year was no exception.

For those who don’t know, the Grammys (Grammy Awards) is an American annual event where awards are presented to ‘outstanding achievements in the music industry’.

This year there were 94 categories covering all aspects of music: pop, rock, dance, country, classical etc. It was a long night!

I was intrigued by Jaden Smith (son of Will Smith). He wore a tuxedo suit, but on his head was a large black structure that looked like a castle, with a hole cut out in the middle for his face!

Mmm… I thought. It was unique, different and probably rather warm. I have no idea why he wore it, but it did manage to make headlines as he walked the red carpet.

Perhaps that was all it was intended to do. In a very crowded industry, people will do all sorts of things to stand out and be noticed.

This is such a contrast to the teaching of Jesus. In the New Testament book of Matthew, Jesus told a parable (story) about a King.

In the parable He describes various situations where the King was hungry, thirsty, unwell, a stranger or needing clothes, and he was helped by people. However, these people were confused as they had never helped the King in this way. He replied…

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
— Matthew 25:40 The NIV Bible

The point Jesus is making is this: He sees the kind deeds that people do, often in secret. The things that go under the radar and not posted on social media.

It’s these things that are important in God’s Kingdom. Serving and helping the ‘least’ in society is a big deal to God, especially those things done that nobody knows about.

I once described God’s Kingdom as ‘topsy-turvy’, as what it values is so different to the world in which we live. It is about the unseen service of the great unknown.

Let me encourage you to be someone who is mindful and seeks to serve, the last, the least and the lost.

God bless you :)
